NHLPA Goals & Dreams and Mitch Marner donate 25 sets of hockey equipment to York Regional Police
Equipment will go towards new community hockey program with students from Armadale Public School in Markham.
TORONTO (Dec. 17, 2024) – The National Hockey League Players’ Association is pleased to announce that NHLPA Goals & Dreams with Mitch Marner and his Marner Assist Foundation have donated 25 full sets of new hockey equipment to the York Regional Police. With the new equipment, York Regional Police has started a community hockey program with students from Armadale Public School in Markham, Ontario.
Last night at the Marner Assist Foundation’s Give a Gift event in Vaughan, this latest NHLPA Goals & Dreams donation was recognized. Close to 50 children from the York Regional Police’s hockey programs (Bernard and Armadale schools), along with youth from HEROS (Jane and Finch chapter) met with Marner and skated on the ice with officers from York Regional Police, Marner’s brother, Chris, and former NHL player Mike Krushelnyski.
“I am proud to continue the tradition of helping give kids an opportunity to play the game of hockey with NHLPA Goals & Dreams,” said Mitch Marner, NHLPA member and Toronto Maple Leafs forward. “It was nice to bring together kids from previous equipment donations and introduce them to new recipients here in my hometown of Vaughan, where our foundation is located.”
The hockey equipment donated by NHLPA Goals & Dreams and Marner will provide the means for York Regional Police’s Community Services department to work collaboratively with more youth of York Region through hockey.
“It means a great deal to the players to give back to the game in their home communities, and Mitch Marner sets a great example for local youth to look up to. We are glad to work with Marner on our NHLPA Goals & Dreams equipment donation to York Regional Police,” said Marty Walsh, NHLPA Executive Director.
This is the fourth NHLPA Goals & Dreams equipment donation that has been made with Marner, following a donation in 2019 to Rex Girls Youth Hockey program in Northern Ontario, a donation in 2020 to Hockey 4 Youth that went towards new Canadians playing the sport, and a donation last year to York Regional Police for children from Bernard Elementary School. The children from Armadale Public School are in grades four and five.
