NHLPA Goals & Dreams: The Players' Program
NHLPA Goals & Dreams has been a proud supporter of grassroots hockey since the inception of the player's program in 1999. Hear more about the program from the players themselves!
Committed to making an impact on issues that matter to its members and connected by a passion for hockey and community, the NHLPA supports causes that raise awareness, fight disease, and help neighborhoods around the world become healthier places to live and play. In the spirit of giving back, the NHLPA enables its members, former players, fans and partners to make a difference and prove that with a team effort, anything is possible.
The Players’ charitable initiative is designed to assist grassroots hockey programs who are helping disadvantaged youth an opportunity to play hockey, through the donation of brand new sets of equipment. For more than 18 years, NHLPA members have been personally donating equipment to programs in their NHL cities and hometowns around the world. On top of donating equipment, players have routinely been on hand at private events to distribute the gear while running drills, signing autographs and answering both hockey and life questions from young hockey fans.
During the 2014-15 season, Goals & Dreams celebrated its 15th anniversary by making stops across North America with the GD15 Tour to give equipment to dozens of grassroots hockey programs. Each stop featured NHLPA members personally handing over equipment while running drills, signing autographs, and answering both hockey and life questions from young hockey fans.
While ensuring the great game of hockey is available to as many children as possible remains a priority to the members of the NHLPA, many other important causes have been supported by the program over the years such as Hockey Fights Cancer, cancer research, heart & stroke disease, natural disaster recovery and hunger awareness to name a few.
The National Hockey League Players’ Association Goals & Dreams fund now accepts online applications for equipment grants and individual funding through the following programs:
NHLPA Goals & Dreams fund provides equipment grants to volunteer-based, grassroots hockey programs for up to 50 children.
NHLPA Goals & Dreams Game-Changer Award provides grants of up to $2,000 to children, families and communities facing unique economic or social challenges.
All applicants to NHLPA Goals & Dreams programs will be notified of the status of their request. The NHLPA Goals & Dreams advisory committee meets several times a year to review and discuss potential grant recipients.
