NHLPA Goals & Dreams donates 20 sets of hockey equipment to Hockey PEI
The donation, courtesy of Anaheim Ducks foward and PEI native, Ross Johnston, will help more children in the community get on the ice.
Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island (Nov. 5, 2024) – Today, Hockey PEI announced it has received a donation of 20 complete sets of new hockey equipment, courtesy of NHL player Ross Johnston and NHLPA Goals & Dreams.
“Being born and raised on PEI and being a part of hockey opened many doors for not only a future in hockey, but also an opportunity to make lifelong friends for myself and my family. This is a great privilege to be in a position where I can give back to the sport that has given me so much,” said Ross Johnston, NHLPA member and Anaheim Ducks forward.
The hockey equipment donated by NHLPA Goals & Dreams will provide an opportunity for young Island players to procure quality equipment and take part in hockey this season and beyond.
“It is always meaningful when we can help NHL players give back to youth hockey where they grew up. These 20 sets of hockey equipment we have donated with Ross Johnston through the players’ NHLPA Goals & Dreams will go to good use in Hockey PEI where many young hockey players can look to follow in Ross’ footsteps,” said Marty Walsh, NHLPA Executive Director.
Johnston, who grew up playing hockey in the Sherwood Minor Hockey Association, is thrilled about this opportunity to give back to the game he loves.
“With the support of Hockey PEI and the NHLPA, I would like to donate this equipment in the memory of a few people close to me who have passed over the years, specifically Dianne Boswall, Darryl Walker, George Coade and Luke Allen,” added Johnston. “These special people had a great impact on my childhood and in my family’s life. The only way I know how to honour them is to give back to the sport that I know they all had a great love for. This is my thanks to them, and may their memory live on.”
This donation, valued at approximately $10,000, will go towards helping many Island youth get involved in the game.
“On behalf of Hockey PEI, we thank Ross and NHLPA Goals & Dreams for the generous donation and will work with both our associations and KidSport to ensure the equipment gets to players in need,” said Travis McIsaac, Hockey PEI Technical Director.
