Marc-Andre Fleury made 28 saves to turn in his fourth shutout of the 2017-18 Stanley Cup Playoffs, guiding the Vegas Golden Knights to a 3-0 series-clinching win over the San Jose Sharks Sunday night.
The shutout was Fleury's fourth of this postseason and eighth win for the Golden Knights as he boasts a 1.53 goals-against average and .951 save percentage – totals that lead goaltenders with at least four starts. Clutch as can be, it was the third straight shutout in a series-clinching win for Fleury after having done so this postseason in Game 4 of his team's First Round against the Los Angeles Kings, and previously for the Pittsburgh Penguins in 2017 (Second Round, Game 7).
Vegas' remarkable run continues onto the Western Conference Final, awaiting either the Winnipeg Jets or Nashville Predators, who play their Game 6 Monday. Seemingly out of a fairytale, few could have expected the "Golden Misfits" to have experienced such wild success with their inaugural season.
"I think it's a great accomplishment," Fleury, focused on a fourth Stanley Cup, said postgame. "But we're still only halfway, you know?"
Named the games first star, Fleury's recent run of dominance keeps his name moving higher and higher up the all-time NHL lists. "Flower" earned his 14th postseason shutout with the win, tying Dominik Hasek, Jacques Plante, and Ed Belfour for sixth all-time among NHL goaltenders. He also sits just one series-clinching shutout away from tying Chris Osgood for the most in Stanley Cup Playoffs history.
