On February 26th, Matt Stajan, centreman for the Calgary Flames, played a part in helping launch a national public service announcement for Best Buddies Canada, at Bishop O’Byrne High School (BOBHS) in Calgary, Alberta.

Best Buddies Canada is a national charitable organization that helps provide meaningful friendships for Canadians, both young and old, with intellectual disabilities.

The program pairs student volunteers with individuals with intellectual disabilities in one-to-one friendships so more people with disabilities can enjoy the same experience most Canadians take for granted – like going to the movies or meeting up for coffee.

The PSA, which stars Stajan, teammate Mike Cammalleri, and several students at BOBHS and the University of Calgary, highlights the friendship Stajan and Cammalleri have had with their Best Buddy Andrew Smith. Through the charitable organization, Smith has developed a genuine relationship with both Stajan and Cammalleri over the past 14 years.

Vancouver Canucks defenceman Dan Hamhuis is also involved with the organization.

The PSA (above) premiered at BOBHS on Wednesday, February 26th, and will appear at over 1,300 Cineplex screens across the nation beginning Friday, February 28th.
