With a legendary Swedish hockey player as a grandfather, and a most un-Swedish sounding name, Douglas Murray was extremely excited to receive a call to represent his country at the 2008 IIHF World Championships. As a child, Murray would sit and listen to his grandfather’s stories and remembers with fondness watching Sweden face-off against Canada in many international tournaments. Murray will get his chance to be a part of that rivalry when Sweden and Canada battle in the semi-final of the 2008 IIHF World Championship.

"This is what you dream about as a kid, to play Canada in Canada. I remember waking up and watching those Canada Cup games, Sweden playing in Canada and saying I want to do that.” -- Team Sweden defenceman, Douglas Murray
