NEW YORK RANGERS TO PLAY EXHIBITION GAME IN ZUG, SWITZERLAND, AGAINST EV ZUG ON OCT. 3
New York/Toronto (June 30, 2011) – The New York Rangers will play a special exhibition game in Zug, Switzerland, against EV Zug from the Nationalliga A at Bossard Arena, on Monday, Oct. 3, as part of the 2011 Compuware NHL Premiere Challenge. Founded in 1967, EV Zug has enjoyed on-ice success both recently and historically. The 1998 Nationalliga A champions, the franchise has advanced to the league semifinals each of the past three seasons.
The team is coached by Doug Shedden, who played a combined 416 career NHL games for the Pittsburgh Penguins, Detroit Red Wings, Quebec Nordiques and Toronto Maple Leafs. Among the other notable names on the EV Zug roster is Glen Metropolit, who has played over 400 career NHL games, most recently with the Montreal Canadiens in 2009-10.
For the 2011 Compuware NHL Premiere Challenge, the Rangers will also play an exhibition game against HC Sparta Prague at TESLA Arena in Prague, Czech Republic, on Thursday, Sept. 29, and a game against the Frolunda Indians of the Swedish Elite League at the Scandinavium in Gothenburg, Sweden, on Friday, Sept. 30,
marks a record fifth consecutive season the NHL will be playing regular-season games in Europe. NHL teams will play a total of four games in three different European capital cities – Berlin, Stockholm and Helsinki – Oct. 7-8, 2011.
