On Friday March 22nd, the NHLPA along with the RBC is nominated for three awards at the 16th Annual Star Awards Gala, honouring the best in event management in Canada. The NHLPA/RBC are nominated for creating and executing the RBC Play Hockey Charity Challenge that took place on December 19th during the NHL Owners lockout.
The event, through the NHLPA’s Goals & Dreams fund and RBC Play Hockey, raised $100,000 in support of Canadian grassroots hockey initiatives. The NHLPA/RBC are nominated in the following categories:
- Best Sports Event
- Best Public Entertainment Event
- Most Outstanding Event Under $100,000
For this great event, 39 NHL players came together with Steven Stamkos and P.K. Subban captaining the two teams. Team Stamkos defeated Team Subban in front of a sold out crowd of hockey starved fans at the Mattamy Centre, the former site of the historic Maple Leaf Gardens.
