Devan Dubnyk has become the first Minnesota Wild goaltender to post 3 straight shutouts (Cesare Maniago first accomplished the feat with the North Stars in 1967), setting a personal-best and team-record shutout streak in Week 3 of this season’s NHL action, making him our NHLPA player of the week.
Devan Dubnyk has become the first Minnesota Wild goaltender to post 3 straight shutouts (Cesare Maniago first accomplished the feat with the North Stars in 1967), setting a personal-best and team-record shutout streak in Week 3 of this season’s NHL action, making him our NHLPA player of the week.
During his streak, the goalie affectionately known as “The Giraffe”, stopped 94 consecutive shots spanning an even 180 minutes, with his first blanking coming at the expense of the Boston Bruins in a 5-0 win for the Wild.
He concluded his club’s four-game road trip with his second consecutive shutout in Buffalo, setting aside a total 38 shots from the Sabres in a 4-0 victory.
Fun fact, Dubnyk’s debut for the Wild was also in Buffalo – it was a 7-0 shutout victory.
Dubnyk brought the brick wall performances to Xcel Energy Center, where he turned away 29 shots in a 4-0 win over the Dallas Stars, bringing him 152 minutes away from Brian Boucher’s NHL record of 332 scoreless minutes set with the Phoenix Coyotes.
His career shut-out total now sits at 22 - notching 13 of them since joining the Wild on January 15, 2015.
Through seven starts of the season, Dubnyk has improved to 5-1-1, boasting a 1.43 goals-against average and .952 save percentage.
