With the Art Ross Trophy standings as tight as ever, Connor McDavid (26-62–88) kicked off his NHLPA.com Player of the Week performance with his Edmonton Oilers in a tight Pacific Division race, while he pursues his first Art Ross Trophy for most points in the NHL.

McDavid picked up assists on both Oilers’ goals at Rogers Place Monday to help Edmonton win their fourth in a row, alongside goaltender Cam Talbot who posted his seventh shutout of the season with 35 saves against the Los Angeles Kings. McDavid finished the night as the game’s second star and with just two points up on Pittsburgh Penguins captain Sidney Crosby.

The Oilers captain netted his 26th goal of the season with a backhand that left announcers speechless, and picked up another assist in Edmonton’s 4-3 loss to the Anaheim Ducks Wednesday.

It was on to Pepsi Center Thursday to close out back-to-back games, where the Oilers tallied five goals in the third period for a decisive 7-4 win over the Colorado Avalanche. With the victory, Edmonton moved into a tie for second place in the Pacific Division.

McDavid and his team headed back to Rogers Place for another matchup against the Avalanche Saturday. He extended his point streak to seven with an assist on Leon Draisaitl’s second period goal as the Oilers skated away with a 4-1 win.

Though the win helped the Oilers to force a three-way tie in the Pacific Division, the Ducks pulled into sole possession of first place with a 6-3 win over the New York Rangers Sunday.

McDavid led all Oilers forwards in ice time by averaging 19:40 per game and went 1-7–8 over the week to further his league lead in points on the season — six ahead of Sidney Crosby. The eight points he accumulated over the week stood as the league-high over the seven days.
