Ryan Getzlaf had his fifth multi-point performance of the postseason (2-2—4) Wednesday to help the Anaheim Ducks even out their Western Conference Second Round series with a 4-3 overtime win.
The Ducks captain cued his team's rally from a two-goal deficit in the second period with Anaheim's first goal of the game, and assisted on Rickard Rakell's game-tying goal. Getzlaf struck again in the second to give the Ducks a 3-2 lead before Drake Caggiula tied the game once more late in the third period. Only 45 seconds into overtime, Getzlaf also tallied the assist on Jakob Silfverberg’s game-winning goal.
"It's remarkable. He's [Getzlaf] one of the best players in the League, and when he plays like he did tonight, that aggressiveness and that physicality, he just pushes the whole team to move forward with him," said Silfverberg to reporters. "If you want to be a team that goes far, it's him that's going to have to keep playing like that and he obviously showed the right way tonight."
Getzlaf was named First Star of the game. With his two goals on the night, the 35th and 36th of his postseason career, he passed Teemu Selanne to move into first in Anaheim Ducks franchise history.
This series Getzlaf has gone 4-4—8, and now ranks second across the league in goals and points with 7-6—13.
After posting two key victories on the road, the Ducks will have home ice advantage as the Second Round series moves back to Honda Center this Friday.
